Apple Stories

INFO
The Apple Stories page was created out of the desire to elevate Featured Stories – human-centric stories that show how Apple products are impacting and improving people's lives. Our goal for this project was to increase visibility for these stories, engage not only with journalists but also with everyday consumers, and highlight Apple’s core values.

This page is divided into three core sections: the regular feed, which features a hero article followed by eight other articles in reverse chronological order; the Pull Quote module, where the Content team curates a quote from one of the stories to invite the media to explore that article; and lastly, the Spotlight section, which is dedicated to marketing content such as the Shot on iPhone campaign. This section was created because there was no other place within the Newsroom experience where PR could promote these types of campaigns.

GOAL

Transform Newsroom into a news and original stories hub for both media and consumers

Apple’s Featured Stories take time. They involve travel, multiple rounds of interviews with numerous people, original photography, good weather, and thousands of edits until they are perfect. With the vast amount of press releases directly from Apple, these stories were often overlooked by the media. The need for a new vertical within Newsroom became immediate.

Our team created a unique page that is very image-driven, with an editorial look and feel. We incorporated elements from Apple branding, such as color-coded tags and rounded corners, along with a clean, minimal design.

FULL EXPERIENCE REDESIGN

Elevating original stories

Due to the fast paced environment of hard news and press releases, featured stories only represents 5% of stories over on Newsroom, so there was a need to rethink how we could elevate the original content so that users wouldn’t miss it while browsing for these human-centric stories.

There were a couple of places that we took a closer look: the local nav, the Apple Stories module on the landing page, the new Apple Stories category, the related Apple Stories module at the end of the article and the tags throughout Newsroom representing the Apple Stories branding.
